Dear XOD Sailors,

After what seems like the longest winter ever, the 2021 sailing season has finally started. Boats are being launched and racing has begun at some Divisions.

Hamble were first to hold a race on Wednesday 31st March. 3 boats raced in the 1st HRSC Wednesday Evening series and very fittingly rounded Fumsey as their first mark.

Itchenor followed and had 10 boats racing over the Easter Weekend. There were four good days of sailing, but it was cold.

The Parkstone division have been working hard with new owners joining or re-joining the fleet. They will have 23 boats will be on the start line this year. That gives even more reason for visitors to cross Christchurch Bay and take part in Poole Week.

Planning for all the Open events is going well. We finally have the Notice of Race issued for Cowes Week and Cowes Classics Week. If you are planning on competing in these events it really helps the organisers and the Class Association if you enter early. More early entries give us more influence with the administrators and Race Officers.

The Open event season is only 7 weeks away. For those planning to visit Itchenor for Keelboat Week please include the Hayling Bay Championships (5th/6th June) and The Probert (9th June) in your plans. It is definitely worth the trip down the Eastern Solent and across Hayling Bay for some early summer big fleet racing.

While the plans for racing this season are more certain than last year the same cannot be said for social events. At present we have no plans for an XOD Social Event at Cowes Week. However, following discussion at the AGM we are planning a social Prize Giving in mid-September separate from the AGM. Details will follow.

Over the winter we have rebuilt the class database and the website is now hosted on a more stable basis. With the database now working please log in and see if your boat is fully compliant. If you have any “red lights” please contact your TAC representative and arrange for your boat to be checked, weighed or a certificate issued. The next job is to update the content of the website. If anyone has articles or good photos we could use please forward them to Gill.

Hopefully the easing of lockdown restrictions will continue aa planned and we can all have a fantastic summer’s sailing.

See you on the water,

Class Captain
